Internal Doors

These doors remain open except in the case of a fire evacuation.
There is a double door. Opens in.
The effective clear width of the door is at a minimum of 800mm.
The opening width of a single door is 800mm.
There is adequate space alongside the leading edge for a wheelchair user to open the door while clear of door swing.

From Ground Floor
To 2nd Floor
The lift car dimensions are sufficient for a wheelchair user and their companion.
The lift doors open to a minimum width of 800mm.
The outer lift controls are at an accessible height.
The inner lift controls are at an accessible height.
The lift does not have audible announcements.
There is a visual display indicating level information.
The alarm button is fitted with a visual acknowledgement that the alarm bell has sounded.
The lift does not have a separate entrance and exit door.
There are handrails within the lift.
The lift does not have a dual height handrail.
There are three lifts here, giving access to all floors. Patients have priority over visitors.


From Ground Floor
To 2nd Floor
There are handrails.
The handrail is in good order.
Some users may have difficulty as the handrails do not meet the required specification.
There is no visual contrast at the top and bottom of the steps.


A designated accessible cubicle has been provided within the toilet block. Please be aware that the cubicle may not be accessible to all users due to the door configuration.
The toilets are located in an accessible location.
The doors are lightweight enough to open easily.
In the general male and female toilets there is a larger cubicle for ambulant disabled people.


The signs are in a logical position.

General Area

The clear widths are adequate.
There is a sufficient turning circle at either end of the corridor.


The floor surface is suitable for the passage of wheelchair users.
The junctions between floor surfaces are correctly detailed and free from height variation.
The floor surfaces are slip resistant.
