Access in Summary


The Stafford Hospital Bus Stop is located near to the Car Park Security, between the Main Entrance and the Accident and Emergency Entrance. There is a bus shelter with seating for up to 12 people on a level surface and bus routes stopping here are the 73, 74, 75 and 825.

Car Park and Drop Off

The main car parks have barrier entry points and are linked via a series of steps giving access to the Hospital. There are two accessible car parks, one located near the Entrance on the main road and a second located immediately outside the Entrance with 8 accessible bays. This area also doubles up as the Hospital Drop Off. There is also a 30 minute only Car Park located outside Accident and Emergency.

Access at Entrance

The Main Entrance has a large weather protected front with a revolving door, this has a button to slow down the rotation speed should visitors require it. An additional accessible entrance is located to the right giving step free access into the building. Please note this door opens automatically when entering and has a manual push button when exiting the building.

The Accident and Emergency Entrance has an automatic door that opens outwards with a level threshold. The door is automatic on entry with manual push buttons when exiting. There is an intercom to the left of the Entrance for out of hours use.


The Main Reception has a low counter with good circulation in front of and around it and is located in the Main Entrance Foyer prior to the Main Corridor. Hospital volunteers are located here and will assist visitors in getting around the hospital if required.


There are accessible toilets located throughout the hospital on all floors, with a variety of different transfer methods. On the ground floor is a large accessible toilet and changing area fitted out with a hoist and a large changing bed. Access to this facility is via a radar key, which can also be obtained from the Main Reception if required. Other facilities throughout the hospital include baby change areas and single sex toilets.

The Nightingale Restaurant is located on the 1st floor offering a large choice of meals and snacks along with a large seating area. There are vending machines in this area offering a further choice of drinks and snacks. In the Main Entrance foyer there is also a patisserie and WH Smiths.

Access to All Areas

There are lifts and stairs located in the key areas of the hospital giving access to all floors and departments. Signage throughout is clear and easy to follow with picture icons and Braille.
