Parking for disabled badge holders. The Trust is committed to providing parking facilities for blue badge holders as close to the hospital entrances as possible. The Trust will maintain a minimum of 15% of the public parking for the exclusive use of blue badge holders. These marked bays will be free of charge and will allow a maximum stay of 3 hours. Blue badge holders who park in the pay and display parking will be required to purchase a ticket from the pay and display machines to cover the length of their stay. Parking for blue badge holders on double yellow lines or hatched areas is prohibited at all times.

Access at Entrance

All entrances to the Hospital consist of double doors of sufficient width to be accessible to all users. Most are sheltered by weather protection and are clearly signed. The Main Entrance has automatic, sliding doors for ease of access. There are ramps to some entrances. All entrances can be accessed step free from the Hospital Car Parks.

Reception

There are Receptions at various departments around the hospital. All are well signed and staff at each Reception will assist visitors, directing them to the relevant areas of the building. Most Receptions are close to waiting areas with seating with armrests available. Both the Carousel Children's Ward and Jubilee Day Unit Receptions offer lowered counter sections for ease of access. There is an induction loop available at the Main Reception to aid visitors with hearing impairments.

Facilities

The Hospital Shop is located within the Main Reception Lobby to the left of the Main Building Entrance. The shop sells a variety of refreshments as well as magazines and daily newspapers. Access to the shop is via a wide opening and staff will assist visitors if they experience difficulty reaching items. There are two vending machines available to the rear of the Main Reception Lobby offering refreshments. There is also a free cold water dispenser. Tables and seating are provided throughout the Hospital and the lighting is sufficient for intended use. Well equipped accessible toilets are available, as are general male and female toilet facilities. Baby change facilities are provided in the Main Building.

Access to All Areas

There are lifts and stairs offering access to all upper floors within the Main Building, including the Carousel Children's Ward on Level 3. The passenger lifts are of sufficient dimensions for intended use and the stairs have less than 12 steps to any one flight. The lift and stair lobbies offer excellent circulation throughout. There are numerous ramps within the Buckland Hospital and adjoining buildings. These offer step free access within the corridors and to several departments. Visitors should be aware that not all ramps have adequate visual contrast on landing areas.
